"I saw there a strange thing, of which the people "I saw there a strange thing, of which the people of the country had told me. The bones of those slain on either side in this fight lying scattered separately (for the Persian bones lay in one place and the Egyptian in another, where the armies had first separately stood), the skulls of the Persians are so brittle that if you throw no more than a pebble it will pierce them, but the Egyptian skulls are so strong that a blow of a stone will hardly break them. And this, the people said (which for my own part I readily believed), is the reason of it: the Egyptians shave their heads from childhood, and the bone thickens by exposure to the sun. This also is the reason why they do not grow bald; for nowhere can one see so few bald heads as in Egypt. Their skulls then are strong for this reason; and the cause of the Persian skulls being weak is that they shelter their heads through their lives with the felt hats (called tiaras) which they wear. Such is the truth of this matter. I saw  too the skulls of those Persians at Papremis who were slain with Darius' son Achaemenes by Inaros the Libyan, and they were like the others."

Fresh, raw goat's milk from mattblackburn @mattbla Fresh, raw goat's milk from mattblackburn
@mattblackburn2.0

When Matt handed me a mason jar of goat's milk I admit I got nervous. Dairy has been tricky for me and my reactions to it have been very context-dependent. Cow's milk from the same farm has at one time made me feel energized and 'rounded-out' my otherwise low-calcium diet, and at a later date, during a more stressful period of moving caused rashes to flare up. Raw goat's milk has been fantastic whereas store-bought pasteurized goat's milk in Europe caused a reaction that took months to resolve. Goat's kefir caused similarly varying reactions. I found it frustrating and gave it up altogether, I didn't have the time, I thought. But the problem of having a diet low in calcium irritated me mentally, and physically too. Calcium is clearly, in my and many other's experience, a calming mineral, and calcium deficiency is bad for many reasons - causing high parathyroid hormone, which Ray classifies as a stress hormone. It does cause bone resorption to keep blood calcium levels adequate after all.

The milk Matt gave me caused me no reaction other than a feeling of calm energy. With the first few sips I knew I would have no problems and after the second jar I felt euphoric that I finally answered the calcium question - I had a way to get it, I just need to do the work of finding a good, clean source.

Dairy truly is too good for the skin and for overall health to eliminate from the diet completely as Kate McCursey said in her interview on Matt's podcast. If you have issues with food sensitivites, find the cleanest source you can, start slow if you need to, but don't eliminate dairy completely. Find a way to make it work, it's simply too beneficial not to.

Thank you Matt for your generosity and hospitality. You helped me find a way to get back on carbs three years ago, and now you've played the main role in getting me back on dairy too.
Every sensible person knows that animal foods cont Every sensible person knows that animal foods contain the appropriate nutrients for human physiology, so it should come as no surprise that animal fabrics are the gold standard for human dermatology. In the same way that plant foods are inferior to those of animal origin, so most plant fabrics are inferior to those that are sourced from animals.
"...wearing Merino wool clothing compared to standard clothing provided improvements in severity of atopic dermatitis (eczema) as well as quality of life in atopic dermatitis patients."
"...wool is not an allergen, and if a fabric does cause any sensations of itch and prickle on the skin then it is because of the large diameter of the fibres and not due to the fibre type being wool."
"“Wool regulates your body temperature far better...'
Lower humidity in the skin’s microclimate when wearing wool sleepwear promoted more restful sleep in comparison to polyester and cotton sleepwear."
-Wool.com (Australian Wool Innovation Limited)
"Wool garments are naturally breathable down to the fiber level. Wool fibers wick moisture away from your skin and can absorb around 30% of their weight before you feel wet. This moisture is then released from the fabric through evaporation. Merino wool products are highly odor resistant due to natural, anti-microbial properties that don’t allow bacteria to bind and subsequently grow on the fibers in the fabric. Thin fibers allow tiny air pockets in the fabric to trap your body heat, which provides superb insulation. A wool shirt is significantly warmer than a synthetic shirt of the same fabric weight."
-Outdoor Gear Exchange, 'Why Wear Wool?'
Merino Wool is 6X stronger than cotton. Its fibers wick moisture away from the skin and then release it twice as fast as cotton. It requires only delicate washing infrequently and it dries quickly. It is stain and flame resistant, and does not wrinkle. There is simply no way in which cotton beats wool for daily wear other than price. But as with everything, you get what you pay for. Take the woolpill.

Why Testing is Critical I took a Cortisol Diurnal Why Testing is Critical
I took a Cortisol Diurnal Rhythm spit test at a time when I was experiencing more stress than I ever knew was possible. It was purely metabolic stress caused by long-term intermittent fasting, low/no-carb dieting, eating ~80% carnivore, and supplementing, often in megadoses, what I thought I needed. I trusted myself to get out of lyme disease and I did, but I paid a heavy cost for thinking I had it all figured out. And when taking this test I was conviced my cortisol would be at the high end of the spectrum all day long. And again I was competely wrong. My cortisol was in fact totally bottomed out.
Stress comes in many forms and when trying to assess how to get out of it, the causes must be pinpointed by an honest evaluation of the years before it started, and backed up by a serious regimen of all the tests available. Data is power. "Intuitive healing" works and I don't doubt its power, but we should never put all our faith in our subjective experiences and personal diagnoses. When working to heal yourself or uphold your good health, test, assess, and test again.

"One of the currents of medical thinking, from cla "One of the currents of medical thinking, from classical times through Paracelsus to homeopathy and naturopathy, has been a confidence in the capacity of the organism to heal itself. But "modern" medicine has arrogated to itself the "healing power," with terrible results, mitigated only by their occasional reluctant acceptance of fragments of sane organismic thinking, such as recognizing the importance of nutrition, or of keeping sewage out of the drinking water. Research into methods to support the organism's natural restorative powers has been ridiculed and suppressed.
We are immersed in the propaganda of modern medicine, and part of that propaganda involves the confabulation of a history of science that supports their practice and their ideology. The real history of science won't be found in science textbooks.
"I intend to show you how neo-Darwinism has been invalidated within science itself, as an explanation of how life on earth has evolved and is evolving. It is nevertheless still perpetrated by the academic establishment, if only because it serves so well to promote genetic engineering, a technology that has the potential to destroy all life on earth. Furthermore, neo-Darwinism reinforces a worldview that undermines all moral values and prevents us from the necessary shift to holistic, ecological sciences that can truly regenerate the earth and revitalize the human spirit." Mae-Wan Ho
Mainstream medical treatments are based on some fundamentally absurd scientific ideas. The advent of experimental animal cloning and the industrialization of genetic engineering have undercut the most important biological doctrines of the 20th century, but the processes of critical thinking haven't made headway against most of the traditional medical stereotypes. Cloning shows that all cells are potential "stem cells," but this fact co-exists with the Hayflick doctrine, that says, essentially, that no cell is a stem cell.
The ideology of culturally significant "intellectuals" - scientists, professors, neurobiologists, linguists, philosophers, oncologists, geneticists - in the US is deeply influenced by the dualism and mechanistic materialism of DesCartes." -Ray Peat, PhD.

I've gotten the question of which forms of magnesi I've gotten the question of which forms of magnesium I use countless times at this point, and for very good reason. Magnesium is a key mineral that is increasingly difficult to obtain in sufficient quantities from even a "healthy" diet. Necessary for thyroid function, restorative sleep, and sky-high androgen levels, magnesium is one of the few supplements I plan to stay on indefinitely, considering its relatively cheap cost and its positive effects on health.
The three forms I use are magnesium lysinate glycinate chelate (sheesh), magnesium L-threonate (proven to cross the blood-brain barrier), and ionic magnesium. I have no dosing schedule and no set amounts, but I always take some combination of the three before training and before bed.
Why do I use them in particular? Because they work - it's as simple as that. I've been on this stack for around 2 years now. I received a shipment after a recent period of using almost no supplements at all, and I see the difference clearly. I sleep better, I feel better, I recover faster. Supplementing does not mean I neglect dietary sources: I get magnesium from yerba maté (along with boron which helps retain it in tissues), coffee, and dates. And for those who will ask, I have never used bicarbonate, simply because I have never gotten around to giving it a try.

In Ayurveda it is believed that all cooked fruits are easier to digest. Fully ripened fruits are almost pre-digested. I think cooking makes sugar in the fruit more available for digestion. "But wherever I found living things, there heard I "But wherever I found living things, there heard I also the language of obedience. All living things are obeying things.
And this heard I secondly: Whatever cannot obey itself, is commanded. Such is the nature of living things.
This, however, is the third thing which I heard--namely, that commanding is more difficult than obeying. And not only because the commander beareth the burden of all obeyers, and because this burden readily crusheth him:--
An attempt and a risk seemed all commanding unto me; and whenever it commandeth, the living thing risketh itself thereby.
Yea, even when it commandeth itself, then also must it atone for its commanding. Of its own law must it become the judge and avenger and victim.
How doth this happen! so did I ask myself. What persuadeth the living thing to obey, and command, and even be obedient in commanding?
Hearken now unto my word, ye wisest ones! Test it seriously, whether I have crept into the heart of life itself, and into the roots of its heart!
Wherever I found a living thing, there found I Will To Power; and even in the will of the servant found I the will to be master.
That to the stronger the weaker shall serve--thereto persuadeth he his will who would be master over a still weaker one. That delight alone he is unwilling to forego.
And as the lesser surrendereth himself to the greater that he may have delight and power over the least of all, so doth even the greatest surrender himself, and staketh--life, for the sake of power.
It is the surrender of the greatest to run risk and danger, and play dice for death."

Fasting as a tradition in human history was always Fasting as a tradition in human history was always associated with a clearly spiritual purpose which had little to do with physical health. In many religious traditions fasting is described not as a way to heal the body, but in fact to weaken and subdue it in order to allow the mind and spirit to regain control over it; to re-establish the internal hierarchy. The act of "repenting", "cleansing", or "purifying" oneself by mortifying the body and denying it sustenance can certainly have positive consequences for physical health when its primary purpose of detaching from material goods is attained. Spiritual and mental peace have profoundly strengthening effects on human physiology. However, to think that ancient peoples fasted as part of a dietary template, or for "health benefits" is to totally misinterpret the worldview of traditional man. Today, when nearly every trace of real and efficacious spiritual practice has been swept away in this darkest of ages, this method for spiritual growth has actually been turned against us and forged into a tool for our own destruction. We no longer fast periodically for spiritual health - instead we now delude ourselves into living lifestyles of constant fasting that break us down physically while not offsetting our losses at all. Health gurus who "travelled to the Amazon" and spoke to demons after sipping on the brews of ayahuasqueros, who are often little more than common Peruvian criminals and murderers, promote catabolizing our bones, muscles, amd thymus glands in order to gain "longevity" and "growth hormone optimization". Many of us know where this leads: severely slowed metabolic function, trashed energy, low body temperatures, depression, protein deficiency, etc.
After pondering this topic for a long time I feel confident in dissuading everyone from any kind of dietary fasting. Fast in accordance as your religious tradition dictates, if you have one, and as your health allows, but never delude yourself into thinking that what you are doing has a directly positive health effect. At most, you are giving your digestive system a much needed break, and your mind and soul a chance to retake the wheel from your lower nature.
